Victoria 3 celebrates its 2nd anniversary with DLC, "a new discrimination" and famine. Isn't that great?

Paradox has released a new update, patch 1.8, that includes a subcontinental DLC.

The DLC, which is called Pivot of Empire and costs $10 (PS8.50), will be available on November 21. Expect a lot of gussied up stuff in India, including new events and mechanics relating to the East India Company and British Raj, the Sikh Empire and the Princely States.

I'll admit it, what strikes me most about this trailer is how the announcer tells us in a chirpy manner that patch 1.8 has a "new system of discrimination" that you can use to do all sorts of horrible things to people who aren't deserving.

If you're nice though, it sounds as if the DLC will bring about a whole host of ways to free India from the Raj's yoke. The blurb says, "Choose India's future as nationalists debate whether to fight for reforms or dream of full independence while British administrators try to preserve their own power." That's a classic move by a British administrator. The Indian Uprising, for example, will test your ability as an administrator to manage tensions between India's native populations and the Angrez.

The DLC is not just about the Brits. There are also new mechanics to let you play with the Indian caste systems, if those other new discrimination system aren't tough enough for you. A new Harvest and Famine will "take advantage of the unique narrative content and events" in the DLC.

It's basically immersion pack stuff, similar to the France-themed knickknacks in Voice of the People. It's all good, but with Vicky 3's Steam ratings currently at a mixed rating, I wonder if players might want something that makes more of a splash. Paradox's DLC cycle is what it is. We probably won't see that until Paradox is ready to release another large expansion pack in the style of Sphere of Influence.
