Helldivers 2 players formed the "Freedom Alliance" to organize their own community orders

The game's galactic war is the secret sauce of Helldivers 2. It's not just the great moments-to-moments blasting. The Helldivers are led by Arrowhead and the game master Joel to various locations across the galaxy in order to fight for key goals. Success often results in an in-game reward, such as mech suits, and failure sets back the cause of democratic values in an unspecified way.

This is a top down narrative with the developers setting the goals and the players following along. Well, mostly. The community came together to support the "Martale Gambit" that was written by players. Joel even had to acknowledge the situation. The Martale Gambit didn't work out, but it was close. Now some Helldivers who are a bit foolish want to try again.

A group of players and community leaders have formed the Freedom Alliance, which was announced on the Helldivers Subreddit and Discord. The Freedom Alliance's goal is to gather players for "recurring large-scale events lasting a few days."

Operation Vanguard Horizon will have the Helldivers breaking Automaton supply chains that threaten the DSS. The organizers provide a "Alliance Orders sheet" in the Helldivers' style and leave it up to the squads to choose specific planets. Instead, they set targets for high-value objects and objectives that are likely to assist with "official" major orders.

The various objectives are categorized by difficulty with "Brasch Tactics", which is a nice addition for those who want a challenge. The latter is themed after the beloved General Brasch who is a fearless defender for democracy. It gives players a suggested loading list along with some warm words on splatting foes of the democracy.

Freedom Alliance is not a group or a clan, but an "open idea" that anyone can contribute to, write about, or build upon. There is a lot of community art, cheery propaganda and even a video to get people excited about managed democracy. Operation Vanguard Horizon will run until Thursday, 24 October. This is in addition to the current major order which has seen the Helldivers sent to Matar Bay in order to fight the "socialist toasters". On October 26, we will see Liberty Day. In the original Arrowhead, this was marked with special in-game activities. The current thinking is the DSS could be finished just in time for Illuminate to appear and blow it.
