War Hospital takes some challenging, innovative management sim mechanics and throws them in a tense setting, where your every choice could mean life or death. Try to make the most of a bad situation in this game about running a hospital during one of the worst conflicts in history.

War Hospital offers a decent management experience with nice flavor. There aren’t many games that use World War I as a setting and even less than ask fans to actually heal people rather than kill them. The game’s management aspect is well-executed, although the core gameplay loop tends to become repetitive. The development team also delivers a good recreation of the first worldwide conflict, with a focus on the frailty of humanity and the incredibly limited tools doctors and nurses had to save lives. I hope that Brave Lamb Studio takes the best ideas of War Hospital and refines them, either for DLC or a sequel.

Overall, War Hospital is a unique and gritty game that depicts the terror that was once happened during World War I. This new approach makes the game's many mechanics stand out, though there are several bugs that are very frustrating when you encounter them. Still, War Hospital ticks many boxes that are enjoyable for both Strategy genre lovers and for those who seek to try their hands at managing something, where every choice determines who lives and who dies.

War Hospital is a bleak and brutal management game, but one with an incredible theme and plenty of depth to keep you engaged.

An interesting take on the hospital sim. Difficult decisions and resource management are the order of the day.

I criticized War Hospital quite a bit, but I enjoyed this game. I don’t have any major complaints about the gameplay, but I was bothered by the sometimes annoying flaws, missing features, and bugs, as well as ugly cutscenes. It’s obvious that the developers ran out of time to properly polish the game but the overall concept and the most part of its execution are great. I felt similar discomfort while playing This War of Mine and Frostpunk and I think that speaks well for War Hospital.

War Hospital falls a bit short for me as a video game – it has good ideas and scratches that management itch at least a little bit, though it’s quite repetitive and feels too punishing at times as opposed to simply challenging. It somewhat grinds down your will to play, which isn’t the best quality in a game. What it excels in – ironically, exactly because it grinds down your will to go on – is making you experience the sheer overwhelming despair and helplessness the brave people serving in these field hospitals must have felt as they fought to save as many lives as possible only to lose a countless number of them along with their own sense of humanity. War Hospital is a valuable history lesson and I’m glad I experienced it.

War Hospital is, in a "good" sense, a rather unpleasant experience. It's a solidly designed tycoon game that, instead of focusing on construction, centers around the management of human and material resources. However, you don't have enough of either, time is pressing, patients are bleeding in front of the hospital, doctors are collapsing in the operating room, and you face a series of morally extremely uncomfortable decisions. It's decent, but is it still fun?

War Hospital has a great concept and good mechanics to implement it but is plagued by poor QA, bugs and frame drops.

There’s another way to look at War Hospital which is as some sort of RPG/visual novel. I think this change would actually benefit the themes of the story. There are already existing characters in the story. They are where the game comes closest to realizing its vision. The randomly generated patients by comparison, all feel like unimportant NPCs. War Hospital is all about taking on a role, but you express yourself through tactical decisions. If I spent less time choosing the mortal fates of random named guys, maybe I could have spent more time learning to be Major Henry Wells.

This demanding strategy game forces you to embrace the fact that you can’t save everyone, and you may lose more lives if you try, but bugs and a lack of polish mar what is an otherwise great experience.

War games are often associated with frontline action and conflict, but War Hospital focuses on the more realistic and dramatic aspects of war. War Hospital reveals that war is fought not only on the frontlines but also behind the frontlines.

War Hospital has a good idea and the core system has some logic and depth to it, but the game itself is boring and lifeless. In short, it's wasted potential.

War Hospital is a primarily functional World War I management simulation game that struggles to establish a meaningful connection between players and their staff and patients. As you progress beyond the initial hours, the gameplay becomes bogged down by repetitive mechanics exacerbated by an inadequate user interface with insufficient tooltips and unclear instructions, accompanied by a host of frustrating bugs that compelled me to frequently reload older save files and restart entire chapters. Despite a promising start, the overall experience is marred by tedium and irritation. Its only redeeming quality lies in its exploration of a scenario rarely seen in the management genre. However, this alone does not warrant an immediate recommendation.

War Hospital boasts a unique concept that suffers from mediocre execution. You will feel the pressure that its main characters are under, but the game lacks a meaningful, emotional connection to your staff and patients. This leads to you only managing them based on stats and robs the game of the moral complexity it clearly wants to portray. Add a repetitive gameplay loop and a game breaking bug fixable only by frequent saving and loading, and War Hospital becomes a game that makes you miserable in all the wrong ways.
