Warlords Battlecry Critic Reviews

I'm sorry I didn't review Warlords Battlecry earlier because I think it would have found its way onto our Game of the Year ballot under one heading or another.

Its depth, variety, creativity, and overall quality will give lots of enjoyment to the strategy player. The complexity and some control nuances make this game somewhat difficult to master, but persistence will be rewarded with a great gaming experience.

Expect this one to take up a hunk of your hard drive for many moons.

The sheer amount of variation, and the small details, found within the game insures that you can play it over and over again and still discover something new.

There are few successful fantasy RPG, and the Warlords are a quality product. It will enchant every fan of fantasy games as well as RPG/FRP, and strategies.

My only major gripe is the over-emphasis on combat. You seem to spend most of your time repelling massive onslaughts from the enemy, then frantically rebuilding before the next one begins.

If you've ever enjoyed the great 2D strategy games of years past -- or enjoy high-fantasy-themed games in general -- then you'll like Warlords Battlecry, the latest game in developer SSG's long-running Warlords series.

If the AI wasn't so bad, the game would be close to perfect.

It might not be the prettiest game, but Warlords: Battlecry proves that good gameplay certainly makes up for blunt edge graphics.

A well-rounded and polished RTS with the added bonus of the heroes that integrate with and elevate the game to a higher level.

Although graphically underwhelming and gifted with an annoyingly repetitive soundtrack, the depth, balance, and customization make Warlord's Battlecry a keeper.

Excellent game with new features that breathe life into the genre.

The vaguely nostalgic Warlords Battlecry is a greatly entertaining offering with the potential for a long and healthy shelf life; if you pine for the days of good, old-fashioned RTS orc-bashing, you owe it to yourself to give this title a chance.

It won't win any awards, but if you are looking for an excellent quality strategy game with some new dimensions, Warlords 3: Battlecry is your game.

Probably doomed to fade away in a slow, possibly unnoticeable, manner.

The frustrating linearity, at times crappy AI and dated graphics keep it from snatching a place in history as a markedly innovative title.

It certainly isn't very innovative, but it is expertly crafted and balanced.

Has a depth to it -- maybe not in plot, but in the combination of fantasy and strategy -- that makes it fun to play.

But if you have battled your way through "Warcraft II" and still lust for more real time swords and sorcery, then Warlords Battlecry will provide you with hours of quality entertainment.
