As the fourth game in a series, We Were Here Forever is a title that knows what it’s about. The gameplay isn’t particularly flashy, and the story doesn’t feature a series of dramatic set pieces to get your adrenaline up. Instead, the developers have stuck to what they know: building unique and interesting puzzles that demand a kind of teamwork very rarely seen in other games. The game improves on its predecessors in every way, without losing the magic that made the series unique in the first place. If you’re not interested in puzzle solving, then this game is going to be an extremely dull experience; alternatively, if you are, then I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Transitory issues aside, We Were Here Forever is, at least at the time of writing, my favourite game of the year thus far. At times it frustrated, but all that did was make the completion of its various brain teasers all the more satisfying. The mark of a truly fantastic game is one that aligns all its elements around a central purpose or goal. In this title, everything orbits around testing the skill of its participants, and that makes for a truly memorable experience for its pairs of players.

The We Were Here series is in a class of its own, and Forever is the best entry yet. Grab a buddy and get ready to test both your brains over about 15 hours of gameplay that constantly impresses and brings new things to the table.

Despite a complete lack of competition, Total Mayhem Games delivers a successful and satisfying sequel to the We Were Here series. It's worth a try for all fans of the genre, no matter how alien the idea of an online co-op adventure game may seem to them.

We Were Here Forever is a great choice if you wish to spend some quality time at home with a friend. An atmospheric, puzzle-oriented and challenging co-op experience that will last for hours and never stops to entertain.

If you've got a like minded friend who loves puzzles and escape rooms as much as you do, We Were Here Forever is a very special game with a 12 hour co-op campaign full of some of the most clever puzzles around.

It’s an easy recommendation for any one already invested in the series, but to the five million couples that played It Takes Two last year: We Were Here Forever should be your next co-op adventure. As the longest and most approachable entry, it’s a great place to start even if you don’t intend to play through all four games - though the second you finish Forever, you’ll almost certainly want to go back for more We Were Here. It’s been a delight to watch We Were Here grow from a student project into one of the best puzzle series around, and I can’t wait to see how Total Mayhem Games takes its signature style beyond Castle Rock next time.

We Were Here Forever certainly lives up to the mantle of Total Mayhem Games' most ambitious project yet, and is great fun with a friend. However, its puzzles aren't particularly innovative for the most part - despite their strong presentation - and the skewed balance of some puzzles often leave one member of your tag team twiddling their thumbs while waiting for the other to finish their part.

We Were Here Forever is with the right partner a really unigue cooperative experience. The puzzles are difficult und sometimes even a little too hard. Don’t even bother with checking the hints the game offers you, most of the time they won’t be helpful at all. We strongly recommend finding someone to play with beforehand, because you need to communicate nonstop in order to escape. But overall We Were Here Forever feels better than its prequel.

We Were Here Forever is a game designed first and foremost for lovers of escape room-style puzzle games. It is completely based on cooperation, in each of its own playful components. This makes it a great game for a couple who are fans of the genre, as long as they are prepared for challenging puzzles. The plot is not central, but the game atmosphere is enjoyable. It needs the right partner and a little patience from time to time, but it is a well-crafted game that we recommend.

This is a quality cooperative experience that I wholly recommend for people who enjoy solving ingenious puzzles with a like-minded friend.

Overall, We Were Here Forever is a compelling atmospheric puzzle game with a moderately high production value. However, its strong reliance specifically on cooperative gameplay all but necessitates multiplayer participation, including voice chat communication, so if you don’t have a buddy to play with and communicate with via Steam voice chat or a third-party app like Discord, you won’t be getting the full value out of this game. Its many minor technical performance issues might very well prove to be a distraction at times to players, but none of it reaches that invisible point of no return. Whether you’re an existing fan of the series, or a relative newcomer like myself, We Were Here Forever will likely draw you in with its atmosphere, and keep you immersed with its creative puzzle mechanics and accompanying ongoing narrative.

A new chapter in the series of cooperative escape games - and the best chapter yet. It’s long, full of clever puzzles that will challenge even the most experienced problem solvers and which require perfect communication and cooperation with your partner. The story is secondary but also better than ever before. This is one of the best cooperative games for two people you can get.

We Were Here Forever is the fourth instalment in a nicely progressing series that just continues to add more interesting and fun co-op puzzles. If you like escape rooms, co-op play and puzzles, grab this game right now.

I really enjoyed my time with We Were Here Forever. Sure, I played it during finals at school and after long, long days at work, so my brain frequently was already overworked, and sure, I had to laugh at myself very, very frequently for overlooking obvious things and overthinking puzzles. But there’s something to be said for the sense of accomplishment for figuring out some genuinely wild puzzles. We Were Here Forever is one long, brilliantly designed escape room puzzle that requires constant communication between players, making for a truly unique experience that will be hard to replicate. I definitely recommend grabbing a good friend and diving in. You won’t regret it.

This is the best entry in the series so far, although there are still many aspects to polish and improve. Still, a solid coop adventure.

We Were Here Forever is essentially a Non-Fungible-Escape Room. Playing with a friend means trying to explain what is happening to you, while at the same time you have to deduce from his (or her) words hints and clues that might help you find your freedom. Words are your only weapon, and your only way out, so make sure you play this with the right person (or the wrong one, for potentially hilarious outcomes).

We Were Here Forever gives no quarter in its cooperative puzzling, fully trusting players to get on with it and work together. At its peak, the wondrous structure of this game is simply sublime, and perhaps the most invested I’ve felt in a co-op game since Portal 2. It doesn’t always hit those highs, and matchmaking was personally hit and miss, but We Were Here Forever generally dazzles.

We Were Here Forever is a good brain workout that will give you more hours of puzzle fun than all previous We Were Here games combined. The puzzles are pleasantly challenging and the flow is good for most of the game. However, due to the slightly too high degree of repetition and long-windedness, you are too often dragged out of that flow, so that the game can certainly be a bridge too far for newcomers. Get it if you're familiar with the genre, but rather play the earlier games if you've never tried a digital escape room like this before.
