As Netflix's The Witcher Season 4 lost another star, I felt compelled once again to tap the sign 'this low-budget YouTube Fan Film does the Witcher Better'

Sincerely, I stopped watching Netflix's The Witcher after a few episodes of season three. I thought the first season, despite its flaws, was a decent first attempt at the dark fantasy Wiedzmin universe of Andrzej SAPkowski. But after being served similar fayre for season two, and then, to my opinion, even worse sauce in the season three's first episode, I lost interest.

While I was disappointed, I wasn't angry, because, as I wrote at the time, a no budget YouTube The Witcher Fan Film, which can be watched in its entirety for nothing, captures The Witcher's vibes better than Netflix, in my opinion. The movie, titled Alzur’s Legacy, follows Geralt's fellow witcher Lambert of Kaer Morhen’s School of the Wolf and sorceress Triss Merigold as they hunt down an Aretuza renegade witcher who has stolen the infamous Alzur’s Almanach.

Alzur's Legacy may be a little rough-around-the edges, and yes, it's delivered in Polish, with subtitles, but it manages, on a fraction the budget of Netflix, to capture the essence of the books, and yes, even of the Witcher games. This is far better than Netflix's show for me. It's worth watching if you are a Witcher fan. Especially if you were disappointed to learn that not only Henry Cavill, but also Kim Bodnia who played Geralt’s Witcher mentor Vesemir, had dropped out of The Witcher season 4.

Redanian Intelligence first broke the news and Radio Times confirmed it. This means that we will have two new actors playing both of these Witcher lead roles in Season 4. Liam Hemsworth is confirmed to replace Henry Cavill in the role of Geralt. However, we do not know who will replace Kim Bodnia as Vesemir. Bodnia, according to reports, dropped out because of scheduling conflicts. Cavill, meanwhile, has moved on to other projects, including a rumored Warhammer 4K cinematic universe.

The first new Witcher novel in over a decade will be released in Sapkowski's native Poland in the near future, followed by a release in English and other languages in 2025. The story and setting of this new book are still a mystery. However, Sapkowski stated in a 2018 interview that it was likely to be a prequel or sidequel rather than a sequel to The Lady of the Lake - the last Witcher story on the official canon timeline.

I have a tip if you want to get in the mood for the new Witcher book. Watch Alzur's Legacy. You can watch the film on YouTube but you can also download it in a much higher quality. You can also download a variety of subtitle packs, so you have the option to read the movie in any language. Check it out.
