I now know the answer. I can see how close I was to solving today's Wordle, after my second guess. It's a shame that my brain decided to wander after such a great start. I had some green letters in good places. The only problem was that everything else turned grey. This was a Wordle that I won, because I had run out of words to try. Let's hope tomorrow I do better.

Today, the answer is an archaic term used to describe someone of low social status, such as a slave or a peasant. In King Lear, it is used as an insult to describe "...a rascal or a person who eats broken meat ...", and others. Today, you can find two different vowels.

Wordle help: 3 tips to beat Wordle every day

Wordle is a great way to get a little boost in the morning. There's nothing like a small win to get you going for the rest of your day. Here are some tips to get you started:

  • A good opening guess will contain a mixture of unique vowels and consonants.
  • With a second guess, you can narrow down the list of letters quickly.
  • Look out for letters that appear more than once.

Wordle doesn't require you to race against the clock, so there's no need to rush. It's a good idea to treat the game as a casual crossword. This way, you can return to it later in case you get stuck. It could be the difference between a winning streak and a row of grey squares.

Wordle: Learn more about it

Wordle will give you six rows of boxes each day. You'll have to figure out the secret five-letter words hidden inside to continue your winning streak.

Start with a strong word, such as ARISE or any other word containing a good mixture of consonants and vowels. Avoid starting words with repeated letters as you may lose the opportunity to confirm or eliminate an extra letter. You'll know if you're right or wrong once you press Enter. If the box turns, that means the letter is not in the secret word. The letter is in the secret word, but it's not in that spot. You've got the correct letter in the right place.

Your second guess should complement the starting word. Use another "good"word to cover any letters you missed last time, while also avoiding any letter that you know for sure is not present in today’s answer. You should be able to find some coloured squares that will help you get started.

You can then use what you have learned to narrow down your guesses to the correct word. You can only use real words and you have six attempts. (So no EEEEE to check if there is an E.) Remember that letters can also repeat (ex: BOOKS).

Wordle was originally created by software engineer Josh Wardle as a gift for his partner, who loves word games. The game was then shared with his family and eventually released to the public. Since then, the word puzzle game has inspired a number of games such as Wordle. These games refocus the daily gimmick on music, math or geography. Wordle was so popular that it was bought by the New York Times in 2007 for seven figures. It's only a question of time until we all communicate exclusively in tricolor boxes.
