World in Conflict: Soviet Assault Critic Reviews

While the Soviets can be considered a new playable faction, the fact that they don't bring any new units means they play pretty much identically to their American enemies. This is perhaps Soviet Assault's biggest disappointment.

The Complete Edition is a great way to introduce newbies to this RTS masterpiece.

Soviet Assault is still an indispensable title, although the developers should have included more new features or, at least, more missions in the campaign mode.

To everyone who liked, or still likes, World in Conflict, Soviet Assault is a must-have. The simple fact alone, that you’re finally able to play as a commander in the Russian Army is sort of a fans dream come true. Unfortunately though, the original's slight overview-problems still haven’t been solved.

Only six missions and no gameplay changes whatsoever? Some people will be disappointed by Soviet Assault. But the add-on delivers just what WiC-players need: The new missions fit exactly into the main story and are far more diversified than those of the main game. Whoever liked World in Conflict will absolutely love this “directors cut”-version.

Soviet Assault is a must have for World in Conflict fans. It does not contribute too much content, only six missions, but its low price and its undeniable quality are enough reasons to search for new challenges in the Massive Entertainment’s universe.

The expansion’s mission set is fun and engaging, but the whole experience only lasts for six missions.

Still very entertaining, but too scripted and holds players’ hands far too much.

If you're really into the fiction of the game or crave anything World in Conflict, then the missions won't disappoint, but if you feel you've already had your fill with the storyline, you're not missing out on that much if you pass on Soviet Assault.

There's only one problem with this expansion: buying it.

If you've already played it, Soviet Assault isn't enough of a reason to come back.

The first expansion for the award-winning World in Conflict features six new campaign maps from the USSR perspective. Invade America with the soviet army and free the nation with the weapons of Communism. A good add-on for those who own the game and look for further and new challenges. Soviet Assault is a good expansion that does its job well, just by adding a few maps to the original game.

A skimpy expansion for an excellent game.

Because no matter how you look at it, paying 15 Euros for six single-player missions and two multiplayer maps which can be downloaded for free isn’t much of a bargain. Moreover, Ubisoft already released the Complete Edition of the game, which contains both World in Conflict and Soviet Assault.

With Soviet Assault we're treated to an exiting and realistically detailed experience of war set in the year of 1989. As with the original game the presentation is as attractive as it is detailed and realistic. The expansion adds an intense war campaign and a truckload of red flags. The increased intensity is unfortunately hampered by an equally increased complexity of gameplay, but overall this is a great experience for all fans of strategy and warfare.

Newcomers to World in Conflict will find some value here, but veterans shouldn't bother.

Soviet Assault doesn't expand on World in Conflict enough to make it an automatic purchase. New players will get the best experience here.

The missions on Soviet side during an assault on NATO are fierce, but require replaying the entire campaign. World in Conflict is a brilliant game, but not everyone wants to play it again just for the sake of the new content. Which is sparse, to boot.

Six new missions and several multiplayer maps – that’s all the extras Soviet Assault contains compared to the previous WiC. We call this add-on not a regular datadisk.

For those who bought the original game and have supported it through two years of corporate turmoil, though, Soviet Assault feels like somebody's just trying to squeeze money out of a loyal fan base that really deserves better.
