The War Within max level achieved by WoW duo without playing The War Within

A father and son have just proven that you don't require any warcraft in order to reach the new World of Warcraft: The War Within level cap. Exploration can boost your character's leveling, but you have to bend the rules of the MMO a bit.

The Reddit user Competitive Hall6922 and his son, who are both 80, leveled up by flying through the old areas of the MMO.

"Basically, my son is sick at the moment. We decided to make Earthen characters, put on some chilling music and just fly around the world in a two-seater," wrote Competitive-Hall6922 in a Reddit post near the beginning of their adventure.

The Earthen duo sped around Azeroth on a rocket mount, which can hold two players up to level 30. WoW has always given you a small amount of XP when you enter undiscovered areas. However, it is usually nowhere near the countless amounts you get for completing quests and running through dungeons. You need to aim for zones with a level range above yours in order to get the most XP.

There are enough zones in WoW to earn a lot of free XP. To speed up the process, the explorers turned on 'Chromie Time,' a feature named for a time-traveling Gnome who can make older areas scale to a maximum of 71.

Competitive-Hall6922 stated, "We explored Outland then Northrend. It was there that we reached level 70. Chromie sent us a message to return to the present." The world was still scalded, so we ignored Chromie and just kept flying.

After they reached the level cap of 71 with Chromie time, they were sent back to the present and faced with a new challenge: How can you gain nine levels in zones which now scale with you properly, but give you pitiful experience points? By cleverly using game mechanics.

Blizzard launched a system known as 'Party Sync" a few years ago to make it easier for players to group up with friends of lower levels. You're at level 80, but you want to work with a friend who is level 30. Party Sync will temporarily lower you to level 30, allowing you to earn XP that you would not otherwise be able to. You should do this with your friends, but you could also create a character in a free trial to stand somewhere while you enjoy the benefits of Party Sync.

Competitive-Hall6922, his son and their friends became impatient and changed plans briefly to try and shorten the last leg of their journey. "At first, we decided to kill all rare [enemies] to speed up the journey. But after three rares, I felt that this was going against the challenge to only use exploration XP in order to reach level 80," said the duo. To "atone" the bloodshed, they decided to reach level 80 without ever entering Khaz Algar.

Both of them reached max level today by (almost only) exploring, which is still an impressive feat, even with this small caveat. You don't have to play WoW's new expansion to stay up to date. They're both wearing cardboard armor, but that was all they needed to do to reach level 80 in the 13 hours that it took.

In the Reddit thread explaining their method Competitive-Hall6922 seems proud of what they achieved but not so eager to repeat it. It turns out that questing is a more efficient way to level up.

"Now we are at item level 10 no gear, quests, nothing but we have reached the level cap." Once, it was fun. Competitive-Hall6922 wrote.
