World of Warcraft fans have been waiting 11 years for the flying mount to spread its wings.
The curse of ignorance is finally over for World of Warcraft fans who have been waiting 11 years for Blizzard's release of a mount first discovered by dataminers. Patch 11.0.7, due next month, will allow players to obtain the near-legendary electric Stormcrow flying mount.
You can go back in time to 2013 and see the first mention of this mount during the Mists of Pandaria Expansion. It wasn't a simple text entry, but a complete midnight blue bird mounted covered in lightning. The players expected the mount to be released within a few patches, just like any other datamined mount. But Blizzard never mentioned it.
Forum threads are full of speculation about when it will finally appear in the game. Some people thought it was a promotional prize for playing Heroes of the Storm while others thought it would be hidden behind an obscure puzzle.
One player even asked the customer service representative about it, which further mythologized its existence:
"Cool-looking mount for sure. However, we are unable to provide information on where it is from. We leave it up to our players to discover where these things come from, if even they are in the game! Fansites can provide some help, but we won't give you any hints."
Six expansions later, the Stormcrow Mount, Thrayir Eyes of the Siren will finally leave the vault. It's one of the cosmetic items that you can earn by killing powerful new enemies within WoW: The War Within’s new Siren Isle area. Blizzard officially acknowledges the item for the first time in this preview video. It shows a player flying over it.
The patch's test version is available in a Public Test Realm, and will likely be released on the live servers by next month. A part of me almost wishes that Thrayir doesn't appear again, allowing for the legend of the Stormcrows to continue for another 11 year.
