Xevious is still a game design that's nearly 30 years old, so all the new bells and whistles in the world won't be enough to get some modern fans interested in this old classic again. But the 3D Classics upgrades have made me more of a fan of it than I ever was before, and that's certainly enough for me to recommend you all give it a try too.

My only gripe with this game applies to all of the 3D Classics titles, and that's the lack of an online leaderboard.

There's no denying the fact that the original Xevious arcade game is beginning to show its age with overly simplistic visual designs and repetitive gameplay, but it's impossible not to be impressed with just how much the addition of true 3D depth injects into the overall experience.

Xevious is a true arcade classic, offering a delicate slice of shooting action that will seriously test your gaming skills. The asking price, however, is far too high to fully recommend.

Xevious may not have absorbed all the conceptual advances of the last three decades, but its appeal, even reduced, remains and, just for that, deserves to be revisited.

3D Classics: Xevious might have met most gamers' standards ten years ago, but in the age of such incredible classic remakes as Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, Galaga Legions DX, and Space Invaders Infinity Gene, it's hard to be confident that fans wont be disappointed with this minimally enhanced port.

Of all the games they could have chosen, why did it have to be this one?

Disappointing.

Unless you're some kind of creepy time-rich retro masochist who actually enjoys having to start over from scratch every single time, Xevious is likely to provoke nothing but buyer's remorse.

Xevious on 3DS was inevitable. Shame they didn't do anything with it.
