The design, structure and implementation of this game are wonderful. From the opening levels, with training that took us back to the classic X-Wing, right through to the epic dogfights of later levels, that erm, take us right back to X-Wing, Yager manages to impress.

A superb title, a lot of hard work has gone into this one and it shows, cinematic, challenging, absorbing and great fun.

Graphically it is the best Xbox game to appear this year (along with Panzer Dragoon). In terms of gameplay its story line will have you laughing and its explosive set pieces will have you yearning for more. Its balanced combination of all out blasting and adventure objectives will keep you entertained from start until finish.

A brilliant attempt at creating a completely engaging and interactive 'living' world. It is clear that an awful lot of care and attention has gone into sweating the details.

Although the levels have been extremely well designed, and variety has been added, there's only so much variety that you can add to an arcade style air shooter and sometimes playing one mission feels very similar to the last, save for the difficulty and the added storyline.

It's a solid, well-designed game that's got personality, solid game mechanics, and a compelling story. It makes space-shooters fun again in new clever ways.

With just a bit better speed sense and a few additional games modes, Yager could be a top notch affair.

An eye-catching and compelling shoot-em-up with interesting characters and themes, Yager's hard to pass up at $20.

You can't do much better for challenging air-combat shooters on the Xbox, just as long as you bear in mind how teeth-grindingly steep that challenge is.

It is just unremarkable...Hits that "totally mediocre" target right on the nose.

Stylistically, it's all neon pinks and shiny gadgetry. Think "Halo" or "Phantasy Star Online" viewed from above. Its strange then, for such an organic looking game that the control interface is awfully clunky.

Provides a fair amount of entertaining, highly kinetic, action adventure gameplay at a very affordable price. But it's also a game that probably would have looked a lot more impressive if it had been released a year ago.

A rather inconsistent experience, in difficulty, enjoyment and general polish, but one that is saved by the core arcade simplicity that is occasionally given a chance to truly shine.

A good looking, fun romp, granted. It just lacks the necessary polish to make it anywhere near as fun as the games it clearly takes inspiration from. Not to mention the need for a learning curve that could be a tad smoother.

The sorry presentation and a complete lack of multiplayer missions--online or otherwise--ultimately keep Yager from being a top-notch game.

It's been a while since the Xbox has seen a good flight game and Yager's quirky missions will certainly keep you occupied for a spell. But with a handful of small problems and little replay value, there's isn't enough to keep you coming back for more.

Quality standards may have been different a year or two ago, but as a "new release" today, Yager ultimately crashes and burns as a poor "Crimson Skies" imitator.

I really wanted it to work, and continued in the vain and unfounded hope that it'd all come good at some point. It doesn't.
