A Warcraft 2 remaster has just been leaked ahead of the anniversary event next week
Blizzard has let the orcs out of the bag one week early: a logo for Warcraft 2: Remastered appeared on the company's internal servers, ahead of the planned Warcraft Direct to celebrate 30 years of the most famous series.
WoWhead has spotted a new entry in Blizztracker, titled "Warcraft II Remastered Internal Alpha." Blizzard included the logo and a piece of key artwork for the game in their server update. This art is perfect if you remember the heavily navalized theming of Warcraft 2 (the sequel was marketed as offering land, sea, and sky over the original RTS game).
Stiven, a long-time WoW leaker, spotted the files around WoWhead's time and posted them on Twitter with great excitement.
Well, excitement and hesitation. Many players are hesitant to trust Blizzard's remaster of Warcraft 3 Reforged. The game was released in a shoddy state, with many features missing. Reforged made it impossible to play the original game online. This is what really upset people, much like Overwatch 2 wiped Overwatch 1 out of existence. Blizzard did improve the Warcraft 3 remake a bit, but they never addressed all of the player complaints. Modders were left to fix the problem.
Blizztracker activity suggests that Reforged is not yet dead. Blizzard may have another surprise for next week's Warcraft Direct. A proper overhaul of Reforged would go a very long way to making people feel that Warcraft 2 Remastered was being handled with care.
