Steam Game Recording has been made available to everyone and is packed with features.
Steam Game Recording is now available to all users. This is a big step towards Steam becoming the gaming app of choice. The new functionality doesn't just simplify the recording of gameplay footage, it also has editing capabilities and a useful-looking marking system.
Users can add their own markers to the timeline of each recording so that they can watch important, interesting or controversial moments later. Developers will also be able implement "game-added markers", meaning that important milestones within a game can easily be earmarked for viewing later. It is similar to the way Xboxes and PlayStations automatically take screenshots of every achievement or trophy earned.
The recording modes are background and on-demand. The former records to a duration or storage limit specified by the user, while the latter can be toggled on and off at will. The Steam overlay provides quick access to the replay functionality. You can also clip and crop your video to your heart's content and share it with other Steam users.
This functionality is fully integrated into the Steam Deck and can be used for any Steam game. It can be used for non-Steam titles. The recording captures only the game window. This means that your desktop, and your hidden obsession with trolls dolls, will not be revealed.
Is this the death knell that Andy predicted back in June, when the beta began, for Nvidia Shadowplay? It will be for me. I don't need two programs, one is enough. Fraps is still a great program, but I miss it. Maybe PC gaming has become too easy?
