Acer has just announced a 600Hz monitor, which can only be for those who have superhuman vision
Blimey! I remember when a refresh rate of 120 Hz was fast. It seems that ridiculous stacks of Hertz on top of Hertz are no longer enough for some people, and manufacturers are squeezing out every last drop of performance for their gaming monitors. Acer is pushing the limit to 600 Hz.
Acer has just launched a 24-inch 1080p Nitro XV240F6 monitor that runs at 600 Hz. This is faster than any monitor (non-modified) in mass production.
Acer states that the 24-inch Nitro XV240 F6 monitor is a FHD-resolution display with a blazing refresh rate of 600 Hz and a response time of up to 0.1 ms from G-to-G, making it one of the fastest gaming displays available today. It has a VESA DisplayHDR (tm) 400 certificate and supports 95% of the DCI P3 color gamut for stunning brightness and color reproduction."
We're talking TN panels here, so you won't be able to enjoy the vibrant colours and dark blacks of a VA or the beautiful colour reproduction of IPS. It's also 1080p which even today's luddites will admit is a little behind the times.
There are trade-offs to make when you want such a high rate of refresh. You can't get it all.
I suppose the question to ask is why would wantto sacrifice these things. I've never seen a 600 Hz or 540 Hz monitor, but I can't imagine that such a high rate of refresh will be overkill for competitive gaming.
In a decade, we may all be talking in MHz instead of Hz and praising the latest 2,000Hz / 2MHz displays. Maybe monitors like the Acer one in this picture will seem quaint by comparison.
