BioWare is no longer planning DLC for Dragon Age: The Veilguard and has instead shifted its focus to Mass Effect.

It used to be that if you skipped DLC for a Dragon Age, you would miss at least one part of the story. The Awakening DLC for Dragon Age: Origins introduced Anders who returned to Dragon Age 2 as the central character. Dragon Age 2 add-on Legacy introduced Corypheus who returned as the main antagonist of Dragon Age: Inquisition. You'll be damned if you try to play Dragon Age: The Veilguard before you've played Inquisition’s crucial expansion, Trespasser.

There won't be any DLC for Dragon Age The Veilguard. According to Rolling Stone's interview with creative director John Epler "there are no plans for downloadable extensions" and the studio has "shifted its full attention to the next Mass Effect".

BioWare's latest RPG, Mass Effect Andromeda didn't receive any DLC. In that case, it seemed like it was set up for some - presumably to resolve whatever happened to the lost quarian Ark for starters - and it wasn't until Andromeda received a poor reception that plans were changed. It seems that The Veilguard was designed to be an immersive experience from the start, and it's probably best.

Epler said in the interview that the design of The Veilguard was definitely influenced the mixed reception BioWare's Anthem and Andromeda received. "I think Andromeda is a better game than the reception suggested," Epler said. "But on the other hand, I don't believe the reception was unfair." There were some technical issues at launch and things that didn't function.

The Veilguard's narrative is much more focused than Dragon Age: Inquisition, which has open zones. This was a direct reaction to the reception of Andromeda's exploration of planets. Epler explained that they had been working on Dragon Age pre-production versions of Dragon Age 4, and we did have one version which was more open-world. We ran into the same issue of how to make it compelling and narratively interesting. "The reception to Andromeda certainly solidified that."
