Black Friday has made my favorite PC case the cheapest ever, and the design is still as classy as always.

Mid-tower PC case The Fractal Design North XL is a large but stylish PC case. The interior is spacious enough to accommodate fans, cooling radiators and massive GPUs. But the best part are the clean lines and wood slats at the front.

As I sit at my desk and write this, my main gaming and work PC is quietly seated beside me. I glance over every now and again to admire its sleek lines and stylish front and am thankful for its quiet, efficient cooling. It's all thanks to the PC case that I use, which is a Fractal North XL.

It's not perfect by any means, however, for me it's the closest to perfection I've ever seen in a case that I've built over the decades. It's also the cheapest ever at three cents short of $140. Amazon has previously sold it for $139.95, but what is two cents to friends?

I'll admit that such a grandiose compliment for a case may be a little over the top, but I still think it is brilliant, despite all its flaws. Let's begin with the most crucial aspect: space.

Fractal Design classifies this chassis as a mid tower PC chassis. However, its sheer length (503 mm or 19.8 inches) places it in the full tower category even though it is not very tall. While it is bulky, there's a lot of room inside for your gaming PC hardware.

It can house a 420mm radiator at the front, but this will limit graphics card lengths to 380mm or 15 inches. A 360mm radiator is located in the top section. The North XL is equipped with three 140 mm quiet fans.

I replaced them with a pair of Noctua NF P14s to allow for more air to flow through the case. But you don't have to.

It would be nice if the North XL were a bit wider. At 240 mm (9.4 in), it's a bit on the narrow side when it comes to cable management. It's not a bad as such, but it could be better. The top cover is also a problem. It's a stylish panel made of steel mesh, but it comes off too easily.

These are minor complaints, especially when you consider how beautiful the case looks. The front panel can be removed to allow you to clean the filter that it houses. The wooden slats add a touch of class.

The North XL would benefit from a few extra USB Type-C ports on the top, but that's a personal choice. I'd be happy to sacrifice the audio ports in favor of more USB connectivity. What I would never want Fractal Design change is the power switch.

Every day begins with a little luxury when I press the beautifully damped button. Okay, so that's a little much, but I think you get the idea. I'll keep my Fractal Design North XL till it falls apart due to the constant upgrades or until a better and newer model comes out.
