The Legion Go is an impressive handheld with a 144 Hz screen and controllers that can be removed like the Nintendo Switch. It's also quite powerful thanks to its Z1 Extreme Processor.

The Lenovo Legion Go has a special place in the ever-bitter part of my heart. It's my first handheld gaming computer, and I'm not sure I want to touch another one. Not until a handheld that is more powerful and efficient is released, because I love everything about the Legion go.

Last month we saw a pretty decent price for the Legion Go, but now Black Friday has risen its capitalist skull it's even better. The 1 TB version is now available at the same price as the 512GB version last month, which is $550.

What is it that I love about the Legion Go so much? Three main things come together to form a package.

  • Big screen
  • Kick stand
  • Detachable controllers

All these features combine to make something that I feel is more than a handheld. These features have made me feel like I'm not just using my handheld (which is probably good, since it's not the lightest on the market).

Detachable controllers make it much easier to use. The Legion Go has two USB-C port, so you can plug in a third party controller (provided that you have a USB controller or an adapter).

This has meant that I've spent a lot of my time without the controller, although I have also used it a lot. This is why I would describe the Legion Go as versatile. It seems like it could be used for a variety of portable gaming scenarios in different places. I've enjoyed using it as a console similar to the Nintendo Switch by hooking it up to my TV and the AverMedia X'tra Go GC515.

It's also important to note that the Legion Go screen resolution is too high. I don't remember ever maxing out the resolution, because its processor couldn't produce decent frame rates with such a high resolution. It's fine, though, because the lower 1920x1200 setting is still sharp enough. Indies that are less demanding will also do well at the higher resolution.

The internals of the device aren't bad for a portable either. The Legion Go has the same Z1 Extreme Processor as the Asus ROG Ally X and Asus ROG Ally, which is enough for 1080p gaming on most modern games with medium settings.

The 1 TB version has been reduced to $550, which is great because it offers so much versatility. It also has a 1 TB storage capacity that is ideal for handhelds. Many only have 512 GB of storage. While this is not as bad as a gaming computer, since most handheld games are smaller, it is still not ideal.

Newegg and Amazon both offer 512 GB drives for $500.

If I didn't already have one, I would definitely buy a Lenovo Legion Go 1 TB for $200 off.
