Blizzard has revealed new Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred storyline details. It's more than just disgusting blood and gore

Everyone remembers the trailer for Diablo 4’s first expansion Vessel Of Hatred. In the trailer, we saw an excruciatingly detailed hallucinate of a young girl being crucified in Hell. It was a hard watch, but it didn't really reveal much about the expansion.

In a video titled "The Next Chapter", a few developers explain what the campaign of Vessel of Hatred is all about.

All things considered, Diablo 4's Campaign was pretty short. We worked with Ralph Ineson’s gravelly voiced Lorath Nahr and Neyrelle in order to track down Lilith, and stop her from gaining more power by eating her father Mephisto, a Diablo series villain. Our character, who has been tainted with Lilith's blood and is now preparing to chase Neyrelle down, we conclude the story.

In the new video we learn that the religious organization seen throughout Diablo 4 The Cathedral of Light has fallen apart over the past few years. The Burnt Knights are a new group of people who have survived a trip into hell. They are hunting Lorath, Neyrelle, and other characters for accidentally killing their favorite angel Inarius. We'll once again have a whole group of people who don't understand that neither demons nor angels are good.

The horrifying hallucination of Neyrelle in the trailer is exactly what happens when you hold a prime villain like Mephisto for too long. Vessel of Hatred is a race against time to reach her before Mephisto convinces her to let him out again. The chase will take place in the jungle region, Nahantu, at the southern end the continent. This is also home to the new Spiritborn class.

It's great to have some story teasers before Vessel of Hatred releases on October 8. I'm not certain how much to make of the fact that Blizzard doesn't push Mephisto the villain as much it did with Lilith. However, it's noteworthy that one of the new items in the game increases damage to demons as well as angels. This is a big deal, as there are currently no angel enemies in the games. Mephisto is a classic Diablo antagonist, but I think he may be a ruse for someone worse.
