Blizzard is preparing to kill off the Spiritborn one-button build in Diablo 4 this week.
Blizzard is the only enemy that can't be defeated by the 'Spin 2 Win Spiritborn' build. A bug fix that will be released on October 17th will slow down the fastest build of the game, forcing everyone to use more than one button. It's the end of an age.
Diablo 4 patch notes 2.0.3 states that "Spiritborn could cast Evade more quickly than normal depending on input method and speed." It is now normalized to the standard Evade casting rate in all scenarios.
It's not possible to spam evade in such a way that your spiritborn appears to be permanently mid-leap. Your damage will likely be reduced by half, as the electric feathers that are shot out when you evade were the main source of damage. It's a sad day for anyone who built their character around a broken build. The build was so broken that it caused the server to lag if there were more than one Spiritborn on the server, turning multiplayer events such as world bosses into slideshows.
Admittedly, this was me. I knew a broken build as soon as I saw it, so I spent my weekend switching to something else. It only took one weapon to get this build going. Most players will be able use their gear to create one of many powerful spiritborn builds.
Adam Fletcher, global director of the community, wrote on X: "We have said before that if a particular build impacts the experience of other players, we will make immediate changes. This is one such instance."
The patch will also fix a number of bugs that prevented people from finding enough crafting items and materials, as well speeding up the seasonal event. The portal demon that you need to hunt down in order to get the new seasonal potions should move faster.
The patch notes don't mention the other major bugs that affect the new spiritborn class. For example, one bug can multiply your damage up to 50 times if you have a lot of health. It doesn't slow down the game but it does deal trillions more damage than any other class. This is not how it should work. It's fueling almost all popular builds right now and I suspect Blizzard does not want to kill the fun of its brand-new class.
