Dead Estate is an action roguelike with big guns, big pixels, and... a particularly buxom Witch. You can now check it out if you haven't yet. It just received its final update and developers Milkbar Lads are free to explore other projects. Or you can just go outside.
Milkbar Lads, and their new indie publisher 2 Left Thumbs, have enjoyed a successful game. It's a twitchy and messy roguelike game set in a mansion that is overrun with every horror trope you can imagine, from zombies to demon cultists, science mutants and even obscure urban legends. They all require shooting with screen-shaking weapons.
Since its release three Halloweens ago the game has received a series free major updates, adding new characters, features and enemies. Guns have also been added. The most impressive update was the Assignment Anya one from last year, which added a Resident Evil-inspired game. It's a couple of hours of stealthy and puzzley adventure if you need a break.
All good things must end, and they're going out in style. Good Night is the biggest update to date. It feels like the team has tried to cram every last idea they had before calling time on the game.
This final update introduces a four-level alternate story branch with its own conclusion. Good Night moves away from its spooky mansion to become more bizarre. Set in a series surreal dreamscapes with five new bosses and dozens of monsters, the game features a new mutation system that makes Chunks, the game's invulnerable stalker, a bit more dangerous on higher difficulty levels and loops.
There are 70 new items to increase the chance of game-shattering synergy shenanigans, and a hefty 31 new guns. There are 70 new items that can multiply the chances of game-shattering shenanigans. And there are 31 new guns to bulk up the arsenal.
This update is the perfect reason to get back into Dead Estate. Dead Estate can be purchased on Steam or Itch at PS11.39/$14.99. You can try the demo first before purchasing.
