Diablo 4's upcoming patch rewards those who don't play its overpowered new class

Blizzard announced earlier this week that 63% of Diablo 4 players spend their time with the newest class: spiritborn. The 37% of players that choose to play lower classes will probably be watching as their new sibling annihilates entire dungeons within seconds. It's tough for players who aren't spiritborn, but the next update will make it a little easier.

Next Tuesday, Diablo 4 is releasing a patch that will give its weakest classes some beefy buffs. Some of the buffs seem to be aimed at builds that were popular or are yet to become more than a novelty. Rogues will be able to use Twisting Blades again, a skill that allows you to stick your blades into monsters, and then have them return after a short time, killing all in their path. Meteor and Incinerate have seen huge improvements, and sorcerers have been waiting patiently for fire skills to get their moment in the spotlight.

No changes will make the classes capable of dealing quadrillions in damage, like the spiritborn. Blizzard will leave the bugs that fuel the new class mostly unfixed until the next season, so players who invested time in gearing up their spiritborn won't be robbed.

Here's how the next week's patch for the other classes will look:

  • Barbarians are stronger in general, and especially with their new Mighty Throw Ranged skill
  • Rogues are also stronger in general, but especially for builds that require close-range Twisting Blades and builds that require mid-range Rapid Fire.
  • Sorcerers can do more damage and use fire skills such as Meteor or Incinerate.
  • Druids have new build options, with buffs for most of their passive skills. However, they will still play in the same way.
  • Necromancers are already the best class, aside from spiritborn who are ridiculously OP. They only have a couple of small improvements in their basic skills

This is a relatively light patch compared to other midseason patches. Blizzard used midseason patches in previous seasons to make major changes to new systems. Many of these changes were already made with the release the expansion. Even the balance changes consist of a few number increases. They are important, but not revolutionary.

Blizzard is revealing next week what to expect from season 7, which will include some major new features. In the recent stream, there were hints that one of these could finally allow you swap between builds by using a similar system to Diablo 3’s armory. As someone who is unable to stop themselves from playing multiple builds and classes each season, I am both excited and scared for what this will do to my free-time.
