Even an idiot can upgrade the SSD on the Steam Deck, and this Black Friday deal for a 1TB Crucial drive gives you a great opportunity to do it yourself.
Hey, I understand: even though it sounds simple, upgrading your Steam Deck's SSD can be a daunting task. You have to use a guitar pick to pry the plastic off, hide the ribbon cables, disconnect the battery and so on. What if anything happens? What if the delicate ribbon cable breaks off? What if something is displaced? What if you spilled tea there? What if seagulls come and carry your Deck away?
You may be thinking that I am a complete idiot, but I can assure you that I had no trouble replacing the 512 GB SSD default in my Steam Deck two months ago. (If you need help, check out our Steam Deck SSD Replacement Guide). It took me no more than 15 minutes to get everything up and running on my new storage stick. And here's the best part: the Crucial P310 model 1TB is currently on sale at Amazon for $70, down from $172.

The 2 TB version was given a 79% score, with "impressive sequential performance", "decent 4K" and "decent performance", but it was also criticized for its relatively slow load times and for running hot when you have a long session.
At this price, it's still a solid upgrade if you're upgrading from the default Steam Deck storage. And I can assure you that having space to spread out your handheld games will be a blessing. You could install Stalker 2, six times. Then you won't be able play it. But still!
You can upgrade the Steam Deck's SDD on your own, and this is an excellent option. It's better than a microSD card that will cause you to experience increased loading times in newer titles.
