Everholm is a game that I might need to add to my list of creepy cozy games I compiled earlier this month. This Stardew-like Farm Sim revolves around witches and magic. You can play the demo now, even though it was just announced for November 11.
Everholm features a number of farm sim activities, including planting and selling crops and livestock, chatting with the townspeople, fishing, and a little combat in a creepy, dark dungeon. Lilly, the main character, is transported to Everholm to search for her missing sister. However, she finds that everyone there already knows her. The game is eerie despite its cute pixel-y look.
I played Everholm’s demo during a Steam Next Fest last year and instantly clicked with it. I needed a little mystery in my farm sim. I also love its angled, isometric perspective. It's a strange thing to focus on but it's something you don't see in other farm sims. You can also unlock magical spells, such as summoning a raincloud to water your crops. It's like the creepier sister of Fields of Mistria, which I've been really into this year.
Developer Chonky Loaf described Everholm previously as "not too cozy," hinting at the creepy setting. Mihajlo djokic, the lead designer, said: "That feeling you get when there's a raging storm outside and you're safely in bed with hot cocoa in your hand--that's Everholm."
Everholm launches as a finished game, rather than an early access version. This means that you don't have to wait for romances and friendships to be added. Chonky Loaf's announcement of its release date also states that "And this just the beginning ..."". "New content and new features are coming soon, so stay tuned to get even more exciting updates!"
Everholm's Demo is still available to play right now. The demo is limited to one week in-game, but it gives you a good taste of the game before launch. Everholm is available on Steam, where you can wishlist the game until launch.
