Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki YOSHIDA asks modders to refrain from 'offensive' or 'inappropriate' shenanigans, now that the game is on PC

Mods are a cornerstone of PC gaming that is often overlooked. They can be created for any game. Thomas the Tank Engine dragons, Abraham Lincoln, in Guitar Hero 3 - if someone can imagine it, it's probably already been uploaded on Nexus Mods.

Square Enix, who has been abandoning Final Fantasy games for PC, have also fallen victim to beautiful and bizarre mods. Final Fantasy 7 Remake has a jacked-up Aerith mod with traps that I could only imagine, and another with Cloud as a babygirl in a croptop. The modding community for Final Fantasy 14 continues to thrive, despite the game's TOS violations. Harvey Randall highlights a neat John Wick-esque animation mod for Ninja.

Hiroshi Takai, the director of Final Fantasy 16, was asked if he would like to see any goofy mods in the game. Takai didn't answer my question. Naoki Yoshida, the producer, stepped in to stop modders from causing chaos with Clive and his crew.

"If we said, 'It would be great if someone created xyz', it could come across as a demand, so I won't mention any specifics here!" Yoshida said to PC Gamer. "The only thing that I can say is that it's important that we don't say anything offensive or inappropriate. So please don't create or install anything like this."

I mean, I get it. You don't want people to create egregious artworks that could potentially harm your artistic vision. Torgal the Tank Engine, but also Yoshida? Clive in a crop top? Jacked Jill Some funny little twists on the Eikon designs? It's true that some or all of these things will definitely happen, but it would have been interesting to hear what Yoshida, Takai, and others think of some of the most cursed mods in the series.

I'm excited to see how modders will inject their own sense of humor into Final Fantasy 16 - whether it be on Nexus Mods or beyond. Just be sure to behave, will you? I've waited over a year to get the game on PC. I don't think Yoshida should turn this car.
