Geralt of Rivia, a card game enthusiast who is not only fond of Gwent. The famous witcher is a huge fan of Balatro, so much so that he has now been included in the game.
Geralt, Balatro, and a few familiar faces have joined Balatro for the first "Collaboration Pack" of the game. This crossover adds optional face cards from not only The Witcher 3 but also Dave the Divers, Vampire Survivors and Among Us. The card cosmetics are unlocked by a new "deck setting" menu, which allows players to customize their decks.
Localthunk, a Balatro developer, said that the conversations were surreal. "Some of the biggest names in gaming praising my little project and wanting to collaborate--absolutely wild. I'm glad it happened!"
Localthunk's not the only one who is excited about this team-up.
The crossover shows how popular Balatro is. They are all big games and they cover the spectrum from "very independent" to "let's have a fight about it indie", to "big-budget blocksbuster." It's like going to a movie festival with Francis Ford Coppola and Atom Egoyan.
Playstack, the publisher of Balatro, said that more new cards would be released later in the year. Playstack teased that more news would be coming about Balatro, saying that today's announcement is the second in a series of three announcements promised earlier this month. The first was a "major game update" set to arrive by 2025. Playstack has not revealed the third big announcement, but said that "the last one will also be a banger."
