Grab this 27-inch 1440p gaming screen for only $160 as a pre-Prime Day bargain.
Price check: Amazon $199.99 (XV271U model)
" data-widget-type="deal" data-render-type="editorial">When I recommend a new gaming screen, I usually suggest one with a panel of 1440p. For me, 1080p resolution is too low these days. 4K only makes any sense if you own a powerful graphics card that can push all those pixels. The sweet spot is 1440p.
With so many options, it's hard to know what's a good deal and what's not. This Acer XV271U is definitely a great deal, especially if you pay a cent less than $160 for it at Newegg.
You'll get a 27-inch IPS screen with a DCI-P3 color gamut of 95% and a maximum brightness of 250 nits. It's not a bad display, but it's also not outstanding. The biggest features are all gaming-related. It's a real treat for the eyes with a maximum refresh of 180 Hz, and AMD's FreeSync premium variable refresh rate.
The pixel response is also pretty good, between 0.5 and 1 milliseconds gray-to-gray. This is a very snappy response time, which will be useful when playing competitive shooters.
The ergonomics of the XV271U has been sacrificed to achieve this price. The stand can only be tilted. It cannot be rotated or adjusted in height. If that's a deal-breaker for you, the XV version ($200 on Amazon) is what you need. It's the same panel, but with a much better stand.
It's a real pig when it comes to high dynamic range, even though it supports HDR10. You'll be fine if you stick to the traditional SDR mode. You don't need to bother with the speakers built into your monitor (but this is standard for gaming monitors).
This monitor has two HDMI 2.0 ports, and one DisplayPort socket. You can connect a console or gaming PC. I would personally buy a monitor stand (check Amazon for prices) to solve this issue. This monitor is a great value and a great monitor.
You won't find a better deal on a monitor than this one.
