Grab this amazing deal on the official Dragon Age RPG if Dragon Age: The Veilguard is getting you in Thedas mode.
Green Ronin, the publisher of Dragon Age: Origins, released a tabletop RPG based on the setting in 2010. It's been a little under-the-radar, thanks to sporadic support throughout the years, but this is a really cool game. And with Dragon Age fever at the peak right now, this is a great moment to get it out on the table.
You can do it for a low price. DriveThruRPG has a 40% discount on all PDFs, including the rules, supplements and adventures. The core book is only $17.97/PS13.82, and it has everything you need. If you like the setting, I think you should pick it up to look through.
The game was originally based only on Dragon Age: Origins and the rules were spread across multiple sets. But this 2015 version of the core manual brings everything together into one comprehensive book that includes material from Origins as well as Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition. There's no Veilguard material in the book, but you're still covered. Faces of Thedas goes into more detail on the iconic characters of the series. Blood in Ferelden and the Game Master's Kit also contain extra adventures.
If you plan to buy multiple items, the Complete Collection Bundle is the best option. It offers a 60% discount ($29.99/PS23.07 for the entire lot).
What's it like? It's a little like old-school D&D with its simple class and levelling systems and classic adventure, but with the dark fantasy feel of Dragon Age. Combat is spiced up by'stunts.' When you roll well, you receive points that you can spend immediately to do cool things like disarm your opponent, find the weak spot in their armor, or change initiative order. The game is rich in Dragon Age lore, original art, and other features. It's a great way to inspire GMs or simply enjoy if you are a fan of Thedas.
Green Ronin no longer supports the game and it was never released in the first place. However, there is actually more material for it available than it appears. This is because the publisher used the same core rules to create Fantasy Age, a game that has received more ongoing support. Dragon Age is filled with classic fantasy tropes. It's easy to adapt Fantasy Age adventures, monsters and more, and keep Thedas going that way.
I don't know how long this sale will last, as the page only states "for a short time". If you're interested, it's best to buy it quickly. If you like The Veilguard you can create your own spin-off stories to continue the story. If you don't like it, you can create your own Dragon Age sequel to replace it. Finally, a game that will make everyone happy.
