I love gardening so I was thrilled to learn that the indie game boyband Sokpop Collective released a full-length game called Grunn, which is about maintaining a garden in the Dutch countryside. I enjoy Sokpop's unique visual style and strange sense of humor. Grunn looks to be a few hours of mildly spooky, gardening-themed entertainment.
I won't mince words, gardeners. I don't believe this will be a typical gardening game. I think it will be scary. It's not that gardening isn't scary. Have you ever been terrified by the fact that your tools weren't sharpened when you realized it?
"It's time to garden. Explore the town. Meet the locals. The trailer warns the protagonist not to get lost as he explores a bucolic Dutch country village in a state of slight disrepair, clippers in his hand. There are people around, odd doors and creepy dark paths, as well as a small store selling gardening supplies. You know, fertilizers.
It's a good thing, because you won't have to buy many tools for your gardening project. Only a pair of shabby shears, a splotchy watering can, and a sad little shovel. Also, it is forbidden to go out after dark. I wouldn't recommend gardening after dark unless you have a bright, well-lit work light. Then it's probably okay.
Grunn is available on Steam for $13, but it's discounted 25% until October 11.
