Heads up: Space Marine 2's photo mode is awesome.

I've played Space Marine 2 in its early unlocking period. While it's a pity that the campaign is designed for co-op - expect to have to complete a lot of missions while under attack, with AI allies that are terrible at keeping enemies away from you - it's still fun getting stuck into hordes tyranids. The waves are so large that it's almost like a degustation. And the finishing moves look like you are cracking open the shells or obstinate lobsters.

The photo mode is a great feature of Space Marine 2 that allows me to spend as much time as I want in it. Press F to bring up the menu. You'll see the usual tools for creating your own dioramas. In every screenshot, Titus' squad is gurning like a pro.

I can also capture the scale of setpieces. You'll often step out of the building and onto a battlefield, where a battalion is dying in the mud. Tanks are bombarding an approaching swarm. The air is thick with lasfire. From the table, they look like Warhammer 40,000 games in progress. I pause each game to switch into photo mode.

Space Marine 2 also does a great job of capturing the size of the characters involved. The original game's firstborn Marines towered above ordinary troopers. The sequel features primaris Marines who have been further transhumanized, becoming bigger and beefier boys. The Astra Militarum, the tech priests, and even the serfs look like small children when they are near them.

It's nice to zoom in on the details, such as the glowing green text of datapads or scrolls and candles which make the computer terminals appear more gothic. My desktop tower should be adorned with a few big dribbly candle flames melting down its side. A servo-skull, or a cherub that looks like a Terminator, should be flying above the tower.
