'I was hoping': One lucky shopper bought an RTX 4000 Super from Amazon at $40. It wasn't a rock in a package.
If you just bought an RTX Super 4070 for around $600, don't look any further. One Reddit user managed to get one for a little more than $50 Canadian dollars, including shipping.
Vincenz_OB, a user who originally posted to the PCMR Subreddit on October 20, announced that they had purchased a popular graphics card from Amazon for $48.94.
One user expressed his disbelief by saying: "On Amazon, a good deal on Graphics Card can also be known as a stone inside a nice package."
Many people thought Vincenz was going to get a "rock in a package" because Amazon is a large multinational corporation that is known to check returns based on weight and seals. In 2017, there was a problem where the wrong Ryzen chips were sent to customers. This is less common today, but it happened back then. If you're clever and lucky, you can tape up something heavy to send back. Play the odds that an organization dealing with a thousand packages a day won't notice.
Vincenz_OB was astonished to find that the 4070 Super arrived at her address in just one day, thanks to Prime Next-Day Shipping.
I contacted the original poster, who said: "With it being shipped and sold by Amazon, I felt hopeful", but also that they tried not to "get too excited" until it was unboxed and delivered.
I asked them if they had actually tried it out. They replied "I have tested it and run a few games and everything is running fine." Couldn't have been happier with the performance." I've seen the Amazon order details and can confirm that this lucky gamer bought it for only 56 and 27 cents Canadian. This is $40 USD which is less than the listed price.
Amazon is a relatively safe place to buy second-hand, or from a site that you trust. As long as you can document the opening and verify what you received, there's little risk involved. I'll use the service a lot to check out the best Black Friday gaming computer deals as the big event draws near, but I don't anticipate finding anything so exciting.
The original poster was able to grab the last card in stock, which is unfortunate for me as I bought the exact same card just last week.
