If your favorite mods for Baldur's gate 3 don't work yet with the new update, Larian will allow you to stick with the older version.

Baldur's gate 3 patch 7 has been released and holy kapowzers, it's a monster. It includes *deep breath* bugfixes and gameplay tweaks as well as new and improved Evil and Dark Urge endgames. There's also a mod manager and toolkit built in. Larian has made sure that those who do not want to upgrade can still play the game.

You wonder why you wouldn't want to update to the newest and greatest version of Baldur's Gate 3. Mods are the most important reason. Mods can have a hard time with big patches. Fallout 4's "next gen update" earlier this year was a major headache. Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 6 in February was "a smidge of fire" and a hotfix that followed broke a lot of mods.

Patch 7 is also not expected to be released on consoles or Mac until October due to the necessary technical requirements and certification process. This means that cross-saves from the updated PC version will not work on consoles. Also, PC and Mac editions will not work together in multiplayer.

Larian is more cautious this time to ensure you can.

Not ready to play Patch 7 yet? The studio tweeted. "We've created a Patch 6 Beta branch for those who wish to give mod authors more time to update their mods. They can also continue to play multiplayer on Mac or keep console cross-savings working."

Select "Betas", then "Properties" and "Properties" to stick with the Patch 6 version. From the "Beta Participation" dropdown, select "release_patch6_hf9," and that's it--the game will update as necessary and you can continue on your way.

It's not a big deal, but the social media community is expressing gratitude for Larian's move. This is no doubt due to the seemingly endless supply of goodwill Larian has after winning every GOTY award.

This only applies to the Steam Version of Baldur's Gate 3! GOG users can go back to an older version of the game using the Galaxy launcher. Click on the "Options," hover over "Manage Installtion," select "Configure," and uncheck automatic updates. Then select the version you want to download.
