If you're planning to upgrade your Nvidia RTX series card, I recommend picking up one of these Corsair power supplies while they're on sale this Black Friday.

I imagine that many of you have already prepared your bank accounts to upgrade in anticipation of Nvidia's new-generation GPUs. No official announcement has been made yet, but many expect a CES 2025 unveiling.

The show officially begins on January 7, 2025. If we see the wraps removed from what we expect to be the RTX-5090 and RTX-5080 (and possibly even the RTX-5070), then tradition would dictate that they will be available for purchase shortly after.

But the rumours also suggest that the new Nvidia card will be very power hungry. Now is the time to replace your current PSU with a brand new, extra powerful unit. The Corsair RM1000x shift is just that.

I found it on Amazon for $150 this Black Friday. That's a significant discount on an excellent PSU from a reputable manufacturer.

Corsair claims that its "award winning range of power supply will fully support the highly anticipated next generation of graphic cards", which includes these Shift model. I think we're getting close to launch, as all the major PSU makers have had the chance to test these new cards with their existing range.

This PSU also has all of its cable connections moved to the side, rather than the rear, hence the title. This makes it much easier to manage cables, and I can see this idea catching on in future PSU designs.

It is still up for debate whether this model will be able to power the RTX 5090. The RTX 4090's peak power draw is 450 W. However, this new card could have a power draw as high as 600 W or even more.

If you decide to buy at the top end, you might want to consider the Corsair RM1200x at $200.

Corsair Shift PSUs, even though they offer a small discount on their regular price, make sense if we assume that the new high-end GPUs will be as power hungry as expected. The "shifted" connectors also make it easy to build.

The RM1000x model would be perfect for this, due to its high output, large fan, and 12VHPWR cable.

Nick, our Nick, has one of these PSUs and loves it. He does have a few small criticisms that are worth considering: even with the big fan, it can get quite hot. It's also large enough to not fit into smaller cases.

It does the job of delivering a huge amount of power, if you will, to components that are power hungry. Corsair has been a name that PC enthusiasts have relied on for reliable power supplies for some time, and these mega PSUs are a continuation of this theme.

My advice is to not be caught short by a PSU that's underpowered. You won't go wrong if you buy a high-capacity PSU from reputable brands, such as these two beauties.
