In the Devil May Cry animation, Dante shouts 'jackpot'. The writing is a little off now.

We finally have a proper trailer of the long-in development Devil May Cry anime, produced by Adi Shankar and Capcom. Shankar was involved with Castlevania which I am a huge fan of, but DMC doesn't make a good first impression.

I know I only have a minute to say this, but Netflix's Devil May Cry adaptation doesn't seem cool enough, or, alternatively, stupid, enough, to suit my fancy. Devil May Cry is a game with many different levels, from gothic castles to otherworldly ruins and Dante's bachelor pad in which he plays pool while slaying demons. In DMC5, he performs a Michael Jackson-style dance while wearing a magic Cowboy Hat.

I won't say that either of these extremes is "the real" Devil May Cry but nothing about this short reveal trailer reminds of how genuinely creepy and moody the old games were or how funny they could be. Dante is just saying "jackpot!" The only thing we have here is Dante saying "jackpot!"

It's a recurring theme in the series but, I dunno... it feels to me like an unearned lottery. I'd like to see Dante defeat a really bad boss before he uses that line. This show should not be a series of empty references to Devil May Cry without all the creativity.

The trailer is filled with generic action anime and a mix between demons and modern-day military. None of this makes me think that the Devil May Cry remake will be a pure over-the top, heart-on sleeve goofiness, or moody immortal warrior adventure. Vergil's arrival could make everything fall into place. We finally know the release date: April 2025.
