Infinity Nikki has been developed in secret over the past year. Former Breath of The Wild and The Witcher 3 talents were called in to create its open world.

Infold Games will launch Infinity Nikki, a new open-world adventure on PC in the next month. The series has been mobile only for years. The developer celebrates the near completion of several years' worth of work by releasing a short film that looks back at Nikki’s journey into a new Miraland with more platforms.

Fei Ge, chief technology officer at Infold Games, says that the development of Infinity Nikki began in December 2019 when the producer of the series expressed interest in working on a Nikki open world game.

Fei says that at the time, the project was kept secret. "We rented a separate office of 50-60 square meters to work in. We then gradually started recruiting and assembling the initial team, working out ideas, laying the groundwork and building the infrastructure. This was our way of working for more than a year."

It's not uncommon for developers to work on games for years before announcing them publicly. Infold Games did this with the first Infinity Nikki video two years later, in 2022. But it sounds like the massive new direction of the series was kept secret for a while by the rest of the staff.

Infinity Nikki was a huge undertaking. It started as a mobile gacha dress-up series and grew into an open world adventure. Infold details a few parts of this journey in the rest the development documentary. It shows how its producer sculpted an exact replica of its giant Millewish Tree to inspire developers in the office, and how its musicians travelled to Hungary to integrate certain instruments into its soundtrack.

Infold also worked with some external talent in the documentary: Kentaro Tominaga (designer on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild) and Andrzej Dbowski (concept artist for The Witcher 3). These are some impressive resumes to bring in.

This is a pre-release development document, so it's mostly fluff. It's also a chance to hear what the developers were excited to be working on. I'm excited to see the Millewish Tree area in-game when it launches. Nothing beats a bigass, shady tree with a small village inside.

Infinity Nikki refers to itself as the "coziest open-world" game. Though I initially had some concerns about the gacha freemium game style invading cozy gaming, I have ended up as weak as anyone and am rather excited about the potential of Nikki being the leader for dress-up PC games.

We'll soon find out if my call shot was worth it, as Infinity Nikki launches on December 5 for mobile, PS5, PC, and Epic Games.
