Ironmouse, a Twitch subscriber, breaks the record for paying viewers by surpassing 320,000
Twitch now has a new subs champ: During an September subathon, Vtuber Ironmouse reached over 320,000 subscribers active on the platform. This is a record-breaking number, surpassing Kai Cenat's previous record of 306,621 subscribers set last year.
Subscribing makes you a paying Twitch viewer, as opposed to 'following.' (which is the same as favoriting a channel). Amazon Prime members receive one free subscription per month for the channel of their choosing. Otherwise, it costs $4.99 a month to subscribe to the lowest level in the US. Twitch splits its subscription revenue with streamers 50/50 after taxes and fees.
I cannot say how much Ironmouse has earned from subscriptions, but it is in the hundreds of thousand. The streamer has promised to donate 50% of the subathon income to charity. She has done this in previous rallies, where she temporarily accumulated over 200,000 subscribers. Twitch's subscriber numbers tends to spike during a drive but then drop back to normal levels.
Ironmouse began streaming in 2017 in response to feeling isolated--she has an immune system disorder called common variable immunodeficiency--and opted to try out Vtubing in its relatively early days, appearing as a horned anime character.
Ironmouse, in a profile for The Washington Post from 2022, said: "I started streaming because I wanted to do something and was lonely." "But I was very worried and nervous about being on camera due to my personal life."
The streamer has become known for her impressive vocal abilities, her years of game streaming and character development, as a pink-haired demonic, and her efforts to raise awareness about chronic illness and support treatment. Ironmouse donated money to the Immune Deficiency Foundation and encouraged her viewers to donate blood plasma. She personally relies on this donation as she needs regular immunoglobulin therapy.
Ironmouse, in 2022, told the Immune Deficiency Foundation that "I have many supporters who have told me they now regularly give plasma." It touches my heart that so many people are willing to sacrifice their time to save lives and to help others.
Ironmouse, who this week surpassed Kai Cenat's record for subscribers on X, posted: "Words can neither express how I feel nor my gratitude." Thank you so much for your incredible support. You have changed my life.
