JB Smoove, Curb Your Enthusiasm’s producer, will adapt High on Life into a TV series: 'It is a case of recognizing a game!'

Deadline reported that JB Smoove, of Curb Your Enthusiasm fame and Saturday Night Live fame, is making and possibly even staring in an animated television adaptation of High on Life.

Smoove played Gus in High on Life, a sentient gun that will yap at you when you have it equipped. Smoove revealed to Deadline that he would be a piscatorial fish, which I find logical. As a vegan, I believe a fish has the right to defend themselves! I mean, right?!"

Smoove’s production company Alternate Side Productions is working on the TV show adaptation, along with High on Life developer Squanch Games, and agency Striker Entertainment. Smoove stated, "[Squanch Games] asked me to join them in their gaming universe and now I am helping them move into TV world." "It was a case of a game recognising a game!" High on Life was wild, weird and wonderful and the series will be all of that and more!"

I can appreciate Smoove’s enthusiasm, but I'm unsure if it is shared here. Rick Lane didn't like the game and gave it a score of 40% in his High on Life Review. He called it a "yammering muddle of mediocrity", despite its "glimpses" of a fun shooting game. Roiland's style of comedy has never really clicked with me. He may be gone from Squanch Games, due to domestic violence charges that were dropped last March. But not before he parted ways with Adult Swim and the game developer.

There's still no word on the release date, but given that we don't know if Smoove will reprise his role it's not surprising that there's so little information. He seems pretty eager to get the ball rolling though, wrapping up his--if you ask me, a touch overzealous--Deadline statement by saying: "We are locked and loaded and ready to go!"
