Jupiter Hell Classic, the original version of the space marines versus demonic roguelike Jupiter Hell, is set to be released before the end this year. The Doom-inspired roguelike will be commercially released with updated graphics and mechanics. It will also have a new setting to match Jupiter Hell's modern world.

Updates will support mods for its top-down grid-based action. Jupiter Hell Classic, once released, will be available alongside the original version DRL.

"Classic DRL will remain free on the ChaosForge site and continue to receive updates along with the new Jupiter Hell Classic Version." "Jupiter Hell Classic is the official way to own DRL and play it on Steam," said developer ChaosForge.

Jupiter Hell was originally a fan-project called DoomRL or Doom Roguelike. It does exactly what you would expect: it turns classic Doom into classic Roguelike. Later, it changed its name to DRL in order to avoid some unfortunate litigation by Doom owners Zenimax. This was part of what led to the development of a full-3D Jupiter Hell remake. Jupiter Hell Classic is the classic version of the remake.

Or, to summarize this complex history as the developers do: "Jupiter Hell Classic demakes a remake that was a roguelike remake of the famous 1995 FPS Shooter."
Jupiter Hell Classic is available on Steam with a release date "Q4 2024."
