Geralt's voice actress confirms that he will be in the next Witcher but not as the lead character: "Geralt will be a part of the game"

This is something we already knew, but it's nice to have it confirmed. Doug Cockle, who voices Geralt in all CD Projekt Red games, revealed in a video for Fall Damage that our gruff monster-slaying father will be returning for the next installment in the series.

He said, "Witcher 4 was announced." "I can't tell you anything about it. We know that Geralt will be in the game but we don't know exactly how much. The game won't be focused on Geralt. It's not about Geralt this time. We don't even know the subject. I'm eager to find out. I want to find out! I haven't seen any scripts yet, and I wouldn't know if I had. This is why I could be lying. But I'm not. Or am I?"

In 2013, when CD Projekt Red talked about The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, it was made clear that this would be Geralt's final chapter. However, they did leave the door open for his return. John Mamais, executive producer at Polygon, said that they might include Geralt in future games. "We need to talk and decide what we are going to do next."

We don't yet know who the protagonist will be for the next Witcher. Ciri is a logical choice. Though it would require making one of The Witcher 3's endings canon, official comics haven't hesitated to do that. They'd have to depower Ciri a little, but that's not a new thing in videogames. Batman, for example, has to level up in order to regain his iconic abilities with each new Arkham title.

Another option is to create a custom character. This could be done in a similar way to V from Cyberpunk 2077. The Witcher series would lose something unique if they ditched the idea of a pre-made character with a backstory.

It's possible that we'll play a new witcher, based on the lynx medallion we have. This could be from the School of the Cat. The Witcher 4 entered pre-production only in mid-2022 and, if Cockle's account is to be believed, he hasn't even seen a script yet. It will be some time before we find out.
