Larian says that the latest update to Baldur's Gate 3 is not final.

Yesterday, Baldur's Gate's major patch 7 was released. It added a ton of new content and improvements, as well as built-in support for mods. Larian has promised that there's more to come.

Larian's words in the patch notes inspired us to call patch 7 "the final major update" for Baldur's Gate 3. Larian wrote, "We still have a few patches in store for Baldur's Gate 3 - which will include crossplay and photo modes, along with other fixes and updates." "But eventually, all stories must end.

"As Swen stated during last week's PAX panel in Seattle - our final live panel for Baldur’s Gate 3 - it's time for our team to go back into our cave and hang up the armour while we focus on bringing our next project to you."

Larian clarified shortly after the story was published that the game is not yet finished.

Larian clarified the clarification quickly with a brief follow-up message: "Patch 7 does not represent our final update." Crossplay is still under development!

Michael Douse, the chief of Larian Publishing, also tweeted, "Good News Kids, it's not final update."

Douse wrote: "We won't talk about the game's future because it would put undue pressure onto the developers. But there are some things we said we'd do that we still plan to do, and the chefs have to cook."

Luke Karmali, Larian's director of communications, emphasized in his tweet the "not speaking about it" angle and appeared to be ready to throw his hands up over the entire thing.

(For the record I don't believe Luke was prepared to do violence because of this, but I enjoy the mental picture of him packing a knife and hopping on a plane like a character in Kill Bill for PC GamerHQ.)

We know that Larian is working on a number of things, despite their reluctance. These include a photo mode and "other fixes and improvements" that were mentioned in the latest patch notes. Does this count as a "major" update? I would say that while being able to adventure with your console friends is a big deal, there are also a lot of fun things you can do with photos. But compared to the meaningful gameplay updates we got in Patch 7, some of which were reportedly quite wrenching, I would have to answer "no."

Maybe we are not as aware of the bigger picture than we think. Tales of the Sword Coast 2 anyone? No, probably not. But at this point with all Larian's efforts on Baldur's Gate 3 over the past year, I'm not discounting any of it.

Larian is currently offering every RPG they've ever released on Steam. This means you can get everything from Divine Divinity up to Divinity Original Sin 2 for less than $30. That's a great deal.
