Lenovo's website could have hinted at a 'Lite' version of the Legion Go.

Lenovo Legion Go is a great product. It's an excellent gaming handheld with a great screen, detachable Switch controllers, and a AMD Ryzen Z1 extreme APU capable of some great gaming on the go.

It's not the most portable handheld because it is, shall we say, big. There have been whispers that Lenovo was working on a smaller 'Lite' device. Some cryptic copy from Lenovo's website may have also hinted at this.

Videocardz reports that while the current Lenovo's Legion Go has an 8-inch screen, a (now deleted) section of its product page mentioned the device as having a "7-inch or eight-inch display". There was also a mention of an HDMI port, which the current version does not have, and a cooling system that uses dual fans.

You guessed it. The current version of Legion Go has only one. One spinning fan. What's the story?

The first thing that raises eyebrows is the mention of a 7-inch and 8-inch display. It is clear that there are two models, with one being smaller than the other. However, the fact the current Legion Go has a display of 8.8 inches makes mentioning an 8-inch unit even more confusing.

The dual fan reference seems just as odd. While a smaller device will almost certainly require a different cooling system, packing two fans into a small chassis is an unusual way to achieve a more compact design.

Are we seeing a reference not only to the Legion Go Lite but also the upcoming Lenovo Legion Go 2? It's hard to say. Let's be honest, it's possible that an intern was allowed to scribble some copy on the product's page and got the specifications all wrong.

A smaller Legion Go would be a great idea. The 8.8-inch display on the current model is stunning, but we found that the 2560 x 1660 resolution was overkill for the frames that the APU could push. The experience was much better when we dropped down to 1200p, even though there is a trade-off in image quality.

The screen can be shrunk down to make it less of a problem. In its current form, however, the Legion Go still looks big and bulky. In fact, we rate it as the top pick for big-screen handhelds in our guide to the best handheld gaming PCs, but with the caveat, that the Legion Go would be best used at home rather than on your daily commute.

To address these concerns, a smaller, lighter handheld would be an excellent move. At this point, we can only make best guesses about the hardware. The AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme or the regular Z1 is likely to be the answer. Strix Point or even AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme? Lunar Lake is another option to consider. It's a wildcard (and could be very performant). If it's released on time, that is.

All I know is that I've wanted a Legion Go ever since I first saw one. A smaller, neater, version with those trick controls strikes me as an incredibly desirable device. Time will tell if this is a mistaken copy or a hint at upcoming Lenovo handhelds.
