Logitech will update every gaming mouse to its latest sensor, which can achieve up to 44,000 DPI with a free firmware upgrade next month

Logitech has decided to be generous and bring all of its existing gaming mouse models with the Hero 2 sensor to the same high-end specifications as the newly announced rodents. This means that our favourite lightweight gaming mouse is now even more compelling.

Logitech announced the new G Pro X Superlight Dex Lightspeed mouse at its annual press conference, Logi Play. The mouse has a new shape and an incredibly lengthy name. The Hero 2 sensor is capable of 44kDPI, which is significantly higher than the DPI we received when the previous Superlight was launched. The new specs are not enough to justify upgrading, as the older Hero 2 equipped model will also receive the same treatment.

As of today, the Pro X Superlight 2 can achieve a maximum speed of 500 IPS and a resolution up to 32kDPI. These are impressive statistics, which means it will be more accurate as it can take more readings on movement. In October, however, a new software update will be released, which will allow it to go up to 44k DPI and 888 IPS. To do this, you will need to connect to G Hub, which is Logitech's software for controlling lighting, profiles, etc.

To put these figures in context, DPI or dots per inch is a measurement that shows how many dots are displayed on the screen for every inch of space. The higher the DPI, then the more sensitive your computer mouse will be. You can change your DPI at any time, so a larger range of DPI will give you a greater range of sensitivity. IPS, or inches/second, measures the tracking speed of your mouse. A higher IPS means that it can keep up with faster movements as you use your mouse.

The Logitech G Pro 2 lightspeed, which was announced recently, will also have Hero 2 sensors, but it is a bit heavier and less expensive. This software upgrade is great news for previous Pro X Superlight 2 users or buyers, but it makes the decision to launch the Dex even more bizarre.

The main difference between the two Superlight 2 mouse models is that the Dex version has a slightly less ambidextrous, but still ambidextrous, shape. It can also reach up to 8k polling rates. The handshape is better for some, but it makes the mouse less usable. Also, the 8k polling rates are likely too high for many people. The software update will be available later this year for those who already own the Pro X Superlight 2.
