Since Elon Musk bought X, it feels like the "everything" app has been in a free-fall. People are leaving Bluesky for a popular competitor due to the removal of the block button and the addition of priority replies for those that pay. There's a good tool to help you switch over if you want to join the Bluesky team or diversify your social media use.

Sky Follower Bridge, a Chrome Extension, automatically compiles your list of followers and follows. This allows you manually follow anyone that you want to keep (and stop following those that you don't). It's easy and requires only that you log in to Bluesky and have public following list.

This extension seems to be very solid. It can, however, struggle with large following lists and sometimes make mistakes in identifying accounts. My username on X, for example, is @JamesMBentley. You say, "James, never use your middle names" and I agree, but most of the uses of my name are already taken.

I was able to access Bluesky over a year ago, and as it is my birthright, I took the "James Bentley' username. This extension has had a hard time picking me up. I had to use the same profile photo and signpost my X-handle to get it to work on Bluesky.

If you've moved to Bluesky, and you don't wish to lose your followers, you can use the same username or give the extension reason to believe that you are the exact same account. Since Elon Musk took over X, there have been a number of competitors such as Threads and Mastodon. However, Bluesky is closest to the classic Twitter experience.

It is basically Twitter with the same colour scheme and similar interaction systems. You can't use emojis to reply to DMs, but you can block accounts. Your following list is also displayed first. I feel like I am actually interacting with other people and not being constantly pushed the latest viral posts.
