Methamphetamine worth 'one million street-level transactions' is smuggled into PC cases

When we hear about PC hardware smuggling, we usually see stories of GPUs that were used for crypto mining making their way illegally across a border or CPUs that were badly taped onto a man trying to get through customs. --has been used here to smuggle a far more valuable item.

Australian authorities discovered a Malaysian trying to import 200 pounds (100 kg) of methamphetamine (via Techspot). The methamphetamine was hidden inside a collection PC cases. The offending items arrived via air cargo assignment and upon inspection, multiple large packages of white powder were found inside.

The authorities said that a laboratory test confirmed the substance as methamphetamine. If it reached the Australian people, it would be equivalent to "one-million street-level deals".

AFP officials arrested a 45-year-old male as he tried to collect the shipment. He has been charged with attempted drug possession. Once stripped of their illicit contents, the cases were successfully delivered to Kingsgrove, New South Wales, where they are stored.

The cases appear to be Dell Optiplexes, which should weigh only a few kilograms each. The 100 kg extra cargo, err, shipment was likely the tip-off. However, Australia is known to have strict border processing controls on many items entering the country.

Matthew O'Conner, Acting Commander of ABF, said that ABF officers closely monitor consignments for any anomalies that could disrupt the supply chains of criminal syndicates.

"They will try to hide illicit substances inside creative cavities in order to evade detection."

Our officers' skills at detecting and disrupting criminal behavior will continue flourishing through our collaboration and sharing of information between our federal counterparts and state counterparts.

It's a creative cavity indeed. It's possible these Dell Optiplex case are available again. Their potential new owners may not be aware that their cheap case purchase had been the subject of a criminal investigation.

Doesn't this give a whole new meaning to the "rock in a crate" debate when it comes to cheap GPU purchases? PC Gamer is regularly sent PC cases to test. Let's hope we don't get some extra cargo in our next shipment.
