Modders have achieved an unprecedented time to ogre by adding Shrek to Dragon Ball: Spinning! Zero was released before its official release date
Our daily reality is based on a number of unshakeable truths. The sun will rise again after it has set. Water will boil at 212 degrees Fahrenheit under standard atmospheric pressure. And if enough people play a videogame, someone will--eventually--put Shrek in it.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is gaining a lot of attention. Bandai Namco reports that the worthy successor to Budokais from our youth, which we called "the best Dragon Ball since the PS2", has already sold over 3 million copies. Sparking! Is it surprising that, with Zero already a huge success, Shrek will appear as an addition to the Z fighters roster in accordance with old laws? No. It's interesting that someone put him in the game fighting Gokus even before it was released.
Nexus Mods has the Shrek On Toppo mod. This mod replaces Toppo, the fierce defender who abandoned his ideals to fight for the survival of the universe, with the funny green ogre known for skateboarding best in Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Modder Ercuallo uploaded this addon to Nexus Mods in October 2024, almost a week before Sparking! Zero's official release.
Unfortunately, this is not what happened. As much as I would have loved to live in a universe where someone inside Spike Chunsoft had been cooking up some hot Shrek mods before the prerelease of the movie, it's not true. Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is the latest to offer early access to those who purchase deluxe editions. Sparking! pre-ordered players were able to download and play the game on October 8. Zero's ultimate or deluxe editions allowed players to download the game and play it on October 8. This meant that Ercuallo spent over $100 to spend their first days with the new game trying to figure out how to make its characters look like Shrek. It's not an ogre-related story, but it is beautiful in its own right.
I admit that seeing Shrek mods in the latest games doesn't hold the same novelty as it used to, but I am still charmed by this informal arms race between gamers to see who can get the green grump to the finish line first. I'd like to see someone take it a step further: Show me Ultra Instinct shrek's terrifying prowess. Make Shrek into the next Goku. I bet his hair would look amazing with silver spikes.
Ercuallo has other Sparking! Browse Zero mods. You could, for example, replace the almost thirty discrete Gokus by CJ from San Andreas as is traditional.
