I'm sorry but is that a Jetpack? Hades's first major upgrade is live, and I'm pretty certain that's a Jetpack in the trailer. Supergiant Games refers to it as the "Black Coat", but that's actually a jetpack with metal fists. It's two legs away from being a mech.
The Olympic Update was released today. Along with the new jetpack, it also includes a list of updates for the roguelike RPG. These include a new boss fight, 2,500 new voice lines, and a new area. This would be an expansion if Hades 2 wasn't in early-access, but this is just one of the major updates that will round out the game until it is released next year.
Supergiant makes it hard to wait until the full Hades 2 release when there is so much to do. Even minor things like the ability decorate your main hub, the Crossroads in the woods, are already there. As I said earlier this year, if you want to play more Hades right now, then just play Hades 2. Supergiant has pledged to do their best to preserve all your saves until launch, so there is no risk.
The patch notes are full of bullet points, but there are a few that stand out:
- The other side of the game has a new region (no spoilers!
- Black Coat is a new jetpack weapon.
- Crossroads now comes with a new option for decoration
- New characters and tons new dialogue
- New animal familiars
- New music is always coming out!
- Save Arcana card sets with a new feature
- New bonuses to play with
I found 98 new entries by pressing CTRL F and most of them were genuine. Hades 2 will feel different if you are like me and haven’t played it since the game was released.
The main menu's roadmap for Hades 2 has also been redesigned. Supergiant says that the next update will not take as long as this and should be released early next year.
