Monster Hunter Wilds' official specs on PC show it running at 30fps and 720p, which is a very bad experience.
We've already announced the release date of Monster Hunter Wilds, which is February 28, 2025. Now we can reveal what hardware you will need to play the PC version of the game. It's going to be a bit fugly with older GPUs.
Capcom has set the Nvidia GTX 1660 Super or AMD RX 5600 as the minimum GPU specifications. You can expect to get 720p upscaling to 1080p on the "lowest" graphic settings. Oh, and only 30fps. Yuck.
Those GPUs were not exactly high-end models when they launched. You'll probably need to be realistic about the performance of a brand-new game that will be released in early 2025, five years from now. But, yes, the marching of time is not kind to old graphics cards.
Capcom could have chosen to use newer GPUs in the minimum recommended category, and then selected settings that were slightly more appealing. In some ways, older GPUs with a dreadful graphics setting are more inclusive. It's a delicate balance.
By stepping up to "Recommended settings", we're now talking about RTX 2070, RTX 4600 or RX 6700 XT graphics cards. This will give you native 1080p at "medium", and 60fps. It sounds good until you notice that it also includes running frames gen. It will look good. The latency will probably not be as fast.
Capcom could also have increased the GPU requirements and dropped the Frame Gen requirements. The "Recommended" tier would require a fairly expensive GPU.
All of this serves as a good reminder of why I have been urging people to buy an RTX-4070 for a long time if they could afford it. Even now, a 4070 costs more than $500. That's a lot of money. It's way more than PC gamers should pay for a decent GPU. It's the point at which you can avoid making the same terrible trade-offs when it comes the graphics settings in the latest games.
Check out the details and familiarise yourself on pricing in your area (it's not cheap). While your GPU waits for February to be abused, you can check out the latest Monster Hunter Wilds Trailer. It features Wilds second region, the Scarlet Forest.
The dynamic weather is a major part of the game. You'll have to deal with everything from tropical storms to sandstorms. It sounds like it could be worth upgrading your GPU.
