Now, Discord displays a log that shows your recent gaming activity so your friends can see the darkest depths of your gaming habits

The latest patch has upgraded Discord's Activity Tracking option, which displays what game you are currently playing under your name. It's an improvement if you don’t mind that your friends know that you’ve spent 20 hours playing Runescape or that you’ve logged into Final Fantasy 14 each day for the last month. It's not a good upgrade if you want to keep your gaming habits private from the vast, nonjudgmental universe.

Previously, Discord’s activity feature showed only which game you were currently playing. The PC client shows your recent gaming history with this update. It includes a timer which displays how long you have been playing whatever game you are currently playing. It only shows information from the last 30 days.

Discord's changelog for August 28 states that "Server member list on desktop now displays a member's most recent activity, including any jams or games they have listened to." "Now you'll be able to see when your friend relaunches the game that you love for the first time since ages!"

It's a limited version, but it changes the nature of Discord activity sharing. It's one to let everyone know which game I'm playing so they can decide whether to join or ask a questions. It's quite another to detail my gaming habits over the past 30 days. Do I want everyone to know, hypothetically, how long I spent in a ’90s adventure game nostalgia void recently?

Discord's "Activity Privacy" setting allows you to disable the recent history feature while still enabling activity sharing.
