Prime Day deals on AMD's RDNA 3 GPUs can save you up to $80

Prime Big Deal Days (or, as Mr Bezos calls it, October Prime Day) is here and the discounts are already underway. Graphic cards are the only thing that has changed in price, and they haven't been affected much.

AMD's RDNA3 GPUs are the only exceptions, and certain versions have seen a price reduction that is very welcome. Radeon RX XTX and RX XTX have all seen their prices reduced by $60 to $80, making them a very attractive purchase. I don't believe they'll drop any further over this week, but you never know.

Quick Links

  • PowerColor 7900 XTX $820 at Amazon (saving $80)
  • Sapphire 7900 XT - $630 from Newegg (saving $130).
  • RX 7800XT at Newegg - $430 (saving $60)

Radeon RX7900 XTX

$899.99 Amazon: $819.99 (Save $80) AMD's RX XTX was hard to find heavily discounted below its MSRP. There are now some great deals on this high-end GPU. We'd be happy to accept a substantial discount. The Radeon RX7900 XTX card is incredibly fast, and there are many good cooling designs available for it, including this Powercolor model.

Newegg $829.99

The Radeon RX7900 XTX graphics card is AMD's flagship and it is a powerful thing. In games that don't heavily use ray tracing, it is as good as any Nvidia graphics card. Only the expensive RTX 4090 can be faster.

Under the massive cooler, there's a chiplet based GPU. The main slab of silicon houses all the shaders. Six tiny chips surround it, which are slices of L3 caching and a memory interface.

The relevant numbers are all more than enough: 6,144 Shaders, 2,525MHz boost clock and 24GB of fast VRAM GDDR6. These two factors combine to provide up to 61 TFLOPs of processing power, so it's not just a gaming graphics card with this kind of ability.

It's not perfect, but it's a good GPU. AMD's RDNA 3, as mentioned above, is behind Nvidia's top chips in ray tracing by a considerable margin. Its frame generation and upscaling technology (FidelityFX super resolution, FSR 3.1), is very good but not as good as DLSS.

The RX 7900 is also a power hog with a TDP rating of 355 W. It regularly reaches this limit when gaming. It's also a lot cheaper at $820 than the $999 MSRP, and a lot less than the RTX 4080 super which is usually around $990.

This deal is very tempting, as it is almost on the same level as the RTX 4000 Ti Super. There are two other cards to consider before you make the leap.

Radeon RX7900 XT

$689.99 Newegg: $629.99 (Save $60 with promo code FTT224DX7446).
The RX 7900XTs are selling for a lot less than their original MSRP. They may be overshadowed, but they still deliver a lot of performance. The Sapphire is quieter than the average RX 7900XT. We could all do with a bit less noise from our computer.

The RX 7900 XT is the closest sibling and comes in at almost $200 less than the RX 8900 XTX. The reduced GPU is still a powerful GPU, even though it has 576 shaders and 4 GB VRAM.

The 7900XT is as good as the 7900XTX when you compare the 1440p gaming performance from our reviews. In some cases it's even better, but that's because early drivers for RDNA 3 were a bit rubbish (it's all a lot improved now). If 1440p gaming is your preference, the 7900XT is the clear winner, as it offers a lot of performance for a fraction of the price.

Prime Day is a great opportunity to find the best deals on 4K monitors.

Radeon RX7800 XT

$489.99 Newegg: $429.99 (Save $60)
The RX 6800XT was the best card at this price point. But now, we have deals where the 7800XT is the same price. The card is only slightly faster than the one it replaces, and it's not a huge deal, but it's still a lot of GPU for the price.

The RX 7800XT is the last but not least. It's also a chiplet, but it only has four Memory Cache Dies (MCDs) and 16GB of VRAM. It's a chiplet GPU, but it only has four MCDs (Memory Cache Dies) and 16 GB of VRAM.

It's slower than the RX7900 XT, but at only $430 it's a great value. Taken from the Far Cry 6 performance results, the RX7900 XTX achieves 0.16 frames per dollar. The RX7900 XT achieves 0.21 frames per dollar. And the RX7800 XT manages 0.28 frames per dollar.

This does not mean that the 7800 XT card is the best of the three. It just means that you get the most bang for the buck with 1440p on this particular game.

The 7800 XT is the best choice if you only play games at 4K. If you are gaming at 1080p or 1440p, then the 7900XTX would be the better option. It is also relatively low-power (263 W TDP as opposed to the 7900XT's 315), so your gaming room won't be blasted by heat.

Three great GPUs at three great prices. Finally, some decent graphics cards are available at reasonable prices.
