Rain World, the eco-adventure game, is getting a brand new expansion. It includes a new slugcat.
Rain World: The Watcher will be released on March 28, 2025. The release will include a new slugcat, the Nightcat (also known as the Watcher), and will be set in an entirely new area of Rain World.
There are also some fluffy drifts of what could be snow. This is a huge twist in a world where the downpours can literally kill your poor Slugcat, if it doesn't have a place to hide. Nightcat, on the other hand, may not be as concerned: it stands in a light drizzle in the trailer.
The expansion's short description says, "The wilds that await you will be unlike anything else that has come before." "Unknown creatures hunt, climb, dive and stalk. New breeds of animals rip, pluck, burrow and conceal. Predator and Prey redefined. "And through it all, there's a lost slugcat doing their best to survive the ravages in a warped universe."
Rain World is a cult hit survival-exploration-metroidvania with one of the most intriguing landscapes in videogames. Its creatures hunt to survive, follow their own rules and exist outside of you. They hunt your Slugcat - the cute and clever creature you play as.
Rain World is a platformer, and it's a survival game. But neither of these categories fits the peculiar brand of misery that Rain World brings. Rain World has traces of other games DNA, like the original Dark Souls bonfire system or the roaming, improvisational enemies of Alien: Isolation. But it stands out as one of most alienating and challenging games in recent history, PC Gamer reviewer Shaun Prescott said back in 2017.
Since then, Rain World has added difficulty settings. They work well. In 2023, there was also a massive expansion called Rain World: Downpour. Rain World and Rain World The Watcher are available on Steam.
